Next group meeting: September 11th.
Do I feel anxious more often than not throughout the day? Am I intensely fearful of specific situations or things? Have I restricted my activities as a way of coping with anxiety?
Anxiety is the feeling of worry, apprehension, fear and/or panic in response to situations that feel overwhelming. Since anxiety is a basic human emotion like sadness, how do you know if anxiety is a problem? If anxiety symptoms are interfering with your ability to do routine, day-to-day activities, or if you have restricted your life activities as a way of coping with anxiety, you should consider seeking professional help.
Do I feel significantly depressed or have a general lack of moods? Do I cry, feel sad, irritable, suicidal, fatigued, or experience insomnia or hypersomnia? Do I lack a desire for closeness, sexual expression, making decisions, or have feelings of guilt or self-criticism?
Clinical depression is typically caused by a combination of biological, genetic, and psychological factors. A recent death or loss, feelings of grief, family conflict or divorce, financial difficulties, major life transitions, and other stressors can contribute to or exacerbate a depressive episode. Identifying the difficulties you have been experiencing and assessing how depression may have impacted other areas of your life is an important step in self-scare.
Impacted by Suicide
Have I ever had suicidal thoughts, attempted suicide , had a suicidal loved one, or lost a friend/family member to suicide? Do I sometimes think my friends or family would be better if I wasn't here? Does pain or exhaustion feel overwhelming and never-ending?
Suicide is denoted by feelings of hopelessness, impulsive behavior, excessive drinking or drug usage, marked personality changes, and multiple attempts. When a person is feeling totally overwhelmed, it's almost impossible to think clearly and to see things in perspective. Whatever the situation, whether you're reaching out for yourself or due to the loss of a loved one, don't feel self-conscious.
Survivors of Assault
Have I ever been touched without express permission? Do I feel a sense of isolation, powerlessness, grief, anxiety, anger, or sadness that became a part of my life after such an event?
Women and men are dynamic individuals who are more than the abuse they sometimes experience. Even though every assault happens in different circumstances, some of the innate responses we have as people are similar to trauma, and people that haven’t experienced such an event can have difficulty empathizing. This means friends and family may not be viable resources for healing after an assault. Strength can be offered by joining others here.
Am I a Massage Therapist, Chiropractor, PT/OT, Reiki Practitioner, Nurse, Doctor, Counselor? Do I heal?
Body workers in the NRV tend to be isolated. The Professional Healers Support Group aims to connect local women and men for treatment exchange ideas and educational outreach. This is decompression for those who give so much. Be surrounded by people who have felt your invisibility and frustrations.
Do I identify as a Woman? Am I working in/around the NRV?
This is a support group for local women who want to network, vent experiences, relay ideas, and enjoy an all-woman community while doing so. This is especially helpful for women working in isolated or male-dominated fields. This group has the least structure of all our support groups because the give-and-take is very fluid. Speakers on effective, professional communication; women in management; and personal presentation are a few highlights.
